A street vendor is selling cakes and sweets while a traffic cop stops a speedy scooter. A mother walks with her child while carring a load of fire wood on her head.
This wall hanging is made by an embroiderer from the Mapaula Embroidery Collective based in the Wintervelt, South Africa. This pieces is 35" x 19" and is stitched onto black African cotton. Tapestries made by the Mapula embroiderers have been collected by museums and also presented to Queen Elizabeth and President Obama. You can read more about Mapula at the The Makers link above.
